THE GREAT INDIAN BUTTERFLY

Cast:u00a0 Aamir Bashir, Koel Purie, Sandhya Mridul

What's it about: Krish (Aamir) and Meera (Sandhya) are a couple going through a bad relationship. Constantly struggling to find a common ground the two embark on a journey to Goa in an attempt to find a rare species of butterfly. The road trip acts as a buffer for the two to sort their differences. They squabble, call each other names and take refuge in the silence that envelops them in the end. Inspired by the Before Sunrise series in terms of story telling, most of the film comprises long dialogues between
the two.

What's hot: Sandhya Mridul is believable in her role. She has what it takes to make Meera seem real. The scenes between Aamir and her are well scripted and the tension is quite authentic. Koel Purie stands out in her small but important role.
What's Not: Even though the butterfly might be an allegorical reference to Krish and Meera's independence and freedom from their suffocating relationship, it doesn't really add anything to the plot. Trying to weave a fable of a mythical butterfly seems gimmicky for this plot.
